Product description

In a world where ‘elite’ men rule and women and ‘weak’ men are second class, Kita and her friends must make a choice: to remain with tribes and accept arranged marriages and being treated with less value than sheep, or escape and journey to the place that even the strongest men fear with their lives – the witch crag.

    Gripping Read

This was a gripping read. I thought the exploration of the treatment of women was an important issue and was interesting in the concept of a post-apocalyptic world. Kita is a great character and I enjoyed reading about the different tribes and their prejudices.

    Drew me straight in

Cover: I like the cover as it looks very mysterious and that draws you into the book. It’s great how there is a crow as that’s a vital part in the story and symbolises a lot. But I think it would’ve been better if there was more then one crow. I also like the gnarled tree roots and the font of the writing really suits the plot as well.

About: Kita, is part of a tribe, a tribe in which survival is the only priority. Distraught when her guardian, Nada, passes away, she is astonished when crows and dogs run away from Nada’s dead body. But when her best friend Quainy is set to a life of an arranged marriage, Kita decides she must do something about it. And so she doesn’t end up in the same way, Kita, along with Quainy and Raff sets off to a place no man has survived, Witch Crag…

What I thought: I thought this book started off brilliantly. It drew me straight in, and already I had so many questions needed answering. But soon after it started to get into to much romance for my liking. It wasn’t very interesting and I got bored. But overall quite a good storyline and the plot seemed well-thought.

I would recommend this to readers age 13+
