What are the Lollies?

If you love to laugh, you’ll love the Lollies! They’re a book award searching for the very funniest children’s books published in the previous year. We’re looking for books in three different categories: Picture Books, Books for 6-8-year-olds and Books for 9-13-year-olds. Once the judges have decided on a shortlist, it’s all up to YOU! This is truly a children’s book award with the winner decided by children themselves.

How does it work?

Earlier this year, lots of different publishers sent us the funniest books that they published in 2018. We sent these books to a panel of book industry experts so they could create a longlist of the top books, ready for our judges to read. Our judges, led by Michael Rosen, are getting ready to laugh their socks off with all the hilarious books on the Lollies longlist! Once they’ve read them all, we invite them to our office to decide on the final shortlist together. They pick the top four books in each category, giving us our shortlist of 12. Then it’s your turn to decide! We announce the shortlist and open the vote, giving you the choice of four books per category. Once all the votes are in, we count them up and announce the winners – all decided by you!

When does this happen?

The longlisting happened in May, followed by the shortlisting in July. Then voting opened this Summer and will close at 11.59pm on the 13th December 2019. We’ll announce the winners in early 2020, which is why the awards this year are called the Lollies 2020.
