Ages 6–8 Shortlist – The Laugh Out Loud Book Awards 2025
Ages 6–8 Shortlist – Lollies 2025
We’re very excited to announce the Lollies shortlist for 2025! Our judges had a tough time choosing just four books per category, so we hope you are excited to read the shortlisted books and vote for your favourites.
Grimwood: Attack of the Stink Monster!
A Bigfoot is on the loose! Ted, Nancy, Willow and the rest of the Grimwood gang must embark on their greatest adventure yet to save their home from a nasty, thieving stink monster. Monster hunters are GO!

Nadia has been described as one of the “best and brightest picture book creators working in Britain today” (The Observer, London).
Keisha Jones Takes on the World
Brimming with ideas and passion, Keisha’s determined to stamp down injustices and stand up for what she believes…
When Grandpa Joe tells Keisha about Great Aunt Bee, who was a lawyer and an activist, Keisha is determined to follow in her footsteps. Forming the Bee Squad, she enlists her friends KD and Paisley to help put an end to inequality. Soon they have their first cause.
Incensed by the fact that her local pet shop is selling male rabbits for more than female ones, Keisha lobbies the manager who explains that he’s overrun with female rabbits. The cheaper price is just a sales incentive. Uh-uh. It’s time to stand up for rabbits’ rights. But mixing up the bunnies has consequences far beyond those Keisha could have imagined!

Natalie is a writer, activist, and tutor. Her interests include reading, activism, travelling, live entertainment, and writing poetry and prose.

Chanté is an illustrator who has been drawing for as long as she can remember, experimenting with movement, vibrant colour, character design and storytelling.
The Shop of Impossible Ice Creams: Big Berry Robbery
Limpet’s mum is opening an ice-cream shop, full of her favourite new flavours: mushroom and tuna ice cream, anyone? Roast parsnip and gravy?
Limpet’s not sure about this. He likes a nice, safe life. His favourite ice-cream flavour is vanilla.
But when wicked Mr Fluffy arrives with his Mega Emporium of Amazing and Spectacular Ice Creams, Limpet knows he’s got to fight back. And there are magic ingredients on his doorstep which can solve all his worries, if only he can get the recipe just right…

Shane is the author of the Darkmouth series. Before becoming a full-time writer, Shane was a journalist and editor of The Irish Times and worked in radio and the music business.

For as long as Jeff can remember the only two things he’s really wanted to do have been draw and tell stories. Eating burritos fits in there somewhere too.
Trixie Pickle Art Avenger: Toxic Takedown
A laugh-out-loud illustrated adventure featuring Trixie Pickle, the Banksy of her school.
A weird sickness bug has been spreading through Wormwood Town and everyone is wondering if there’s something in the water. Trixie Pickle Art Avenger uses the power of art to investigate – can she get to the bottom of the mystery around the town reservoir?
She’s got a lot on her plate – being bored to sleep by Money Week at school, making comics with her best friend Beeks and finding a way to bring down the local mean girls – but with artistic inspiration from Botticelli, Damien Hirst and Kehinde Wiley, the Art Avenger is sure to win the day.

Olaf is an author, illustrator and a stand-up comedian (which is pretty similar to a stand-up chameleon except he doesn’t change colour to blend in with the background).
