Product description

At KS2, children just need to be aware that the subjunctive mood tends to be used in English to write or talk about situations which are not certain or real, particularly in a formal situation. For example, ‘If I were prime minister, I would…’

Note the use of the verb form ‘were’: in the subjunctive, the verb does not change according to the subject.

The subjunctive can also be used to refer to wishes and commands (‘I wish I were there.’ ‘I demand that he give back the money.’)

Take a look at our subjunctive mood activity for more practice on this.
