Introduce the topic of the Mayan Civilization by asking the children to generate questions using the 5 Ws – Who? When? Where? What? Why?. These could be recorded on sticky notes and then collated or in groups on large A3 sheets. They can be basic (‘Who were the Maya?’) or begin to explore more advanced ideas (‘What evidence do we have about the Mayan civilisation?’). Share as a class and discuss whether anyone thinks they may know any of the answers.

Then give children copies of our marvellous All about the Maya information sheet. Read the sheet together and ask the children to note whether they can answer any of their questions now.
