Product description
Read the story of King Midas, giving the children a moment or two of thinking time at the end. What clues does the story give about how rich he was? Ask the children questions such as Who lives in a palace? What does it look like? What makes a palace different from the kind of house we live in?.
Talk about the character of King Midas. Encourage the children to think of words to describe the kind of person he was, for example, unhappy, grumpy, greedy, lonely. What tells you that the king was greedy? (He always wanted more – more servants, more gold, a bigger palace.)
Explore the idea that you don’t have to be a king who loves gold to be greedy. Think about what else can make us greedy – wanting the biggest slice of cake, extra pocket money and so on.
