Product description
This poem is written with Dr. Seuss’s style in mind, together with a hint of the ‘cautionary’ tales of Hillaire Belloc, who is best known for the poem Matilda told such Dreadful Lies.
Read the poem to the children and discuss the dragon character. Seek their ideas about what he would look like.
Discuss the idea of letting a dragon into their home. Can they think of any other ways that the dragon’s flames could be of use? He is, it seems, ‘A friendly fellow’, so could he perhaps help to heat the house, dry the washing or warm the sea for paddling in? Explore their ideas, and consider the practicalities.
Draw attention to the rhyming words in the poem, and challenge children to develop them into rhyming strings.
Please note this is a digital-only product. You will receive an email containing a link to download your product after purchase.
