PM Gold
At Gold level, children should be able to access a greater variety of texts with growing independence. Gold introduces children to more complex sentences with an average length of 10 words and helps to develop reading strategies such as breaking long words down into syllables.

PM Turquoise
Turquoise develops children’s understanding of topics with clusters of books on related subjects. High-interest themes such as danger, courage, kindness, bullying and anger are introduced, and by the end of this level children will be confident with around 450 high frequency words.

PM Purple
Purple introduces a variety of activities and sports to promote reading for pleasure. It also offers plenty of opportunities to look at rhyme within words to build fluency and phrasing.

PM Silver
Sentences with two or three clauses and several verbs become more common in Silver and the length of the texts extends to around 1000 words to help build reading stamina. Real-life problems are also introduced to encourage empathy.

PM Blue
Once children recognise 100 high frequency words, it’s time for Blue, which introduces children to sentence structures and repeats common word endings.

PM Yellow
Once children recognise 50 high frequency words, they can progress to Yellow. This level offers opportunities to focus on initial consonants and consonant blends and presents children with new vocabulary – one new word is introduced for every 20 familiar words.

PM Green
Once children recognise 160 high frequency words they progress to Green which introduces more compound words, some longer sentences often with two clauses and different forms of text such as non-fiction, rhymes, diagrams, fables and verse.

PM Orange
Once children recognise 250 high frequency words they progress to Orange which introduces new words and reinforces those already encountered. Three syllable words appear and readers encounter different story structures -such as traditional tales and plays – to build writing skills.

PM Red
Once children recognise 25-30 high frequency words they are ready for Red. The transition is made easy with overlapping of high frequency words and sentence structures. Recurring families and animal characters are also introduced at this stage to engage your children.

Magenta is perfect for introducing fundamental reading concepts and skills to early and emergent readers. Build phonemic awareness and knowledge of letter-sound relationships and high frequency words.
