Jacqueline Wilson was born in Bath in 1945, but spent most of her childhood in Kingston-on-Thames. She always wanted to be a writer and wrote her first “novel” when she was nine, filling countless Woolworths’ exercise books as she grew up. Since having her daughter, Emma, she has been writing full time.

Her insightful and emotionally challenging books not only stretch reading ability, but give young readers a glimpse into many kinds of lives. Smart girls, strong girls, bad girls, brave girls. Girls keeping their families going, girls trying to get away… Jacqueline Wilson’s written about them all! These powerful stories of plucky girls in difficult circumstances won’t fail to strike a chord.

She has written over 70 best-selling books, and several have even been adapted for TV – most famously The Story of Tracy Beaker. Her signing sessions attract huge crowds of fans and last for hours! Over 25 million copies of her books have now been sold in the UK alone.

In 2007 Jacky Daydream was published, an inspirational true story of how a shy schoolgirl became a superstar author. This was followed by My Secret Diary, a captivating account of Jacky’s teenage years.

In June 2002 Jacqueline was given an OBE for services to literacy in schools, and she was the Children’s Laureate from 2005-2007. She also became a Dame in December 2007.

    This has to be THE BEST book written by Jacqueline Wilson so far! I love Queenie, it is really touching and has many unexpected twists to engage the reader. It is AMAZING!

    I love this book!it’s a bit sad when they can’t go to the coronation but it’s so good and Queenie sounds like the best cat ever! A fantastic book

    I was either laughing or crying when I was reading this book. This is one of Jacqueline’s best books. I am reading this book over and over again because it is so good. Elsie’s imagination has definitely made me want to read it again. A must have book

    I thought this books was absouloutley amazing. Jaqueline Wilson was clever because she wrote it about the Cornation back in 1953 and at the end she wrote about 2013.

    I thought it was better than Hetty Feather.

    Definatley read it.

    Get your hands on it!

    I was a bit apprehensive about reading this. I hadn’t heard anything about this book before, and I didn’t even know what it was about. However, I decided to give it a try as I used to enjoy Jacqueline Wilson’s books a lot when I was younger.

    The main protagonist is a young girl named Elsie. She doesn’t see her mum very much, and lives with her Nan who she adores. But suddenly her Nan gets seriously ill, and that’s when things start to go very, very bad.

    Elsie was very sweet, kind and caring but at times she was very naive and seemed a bit clueless about…well, everything. Maybe I just found that a bit annoying because of our age gap, I don’t know. However, she was entertaining to read about, especially when she got up to mischief in the hospital.

    The story revolved around a very sad topic, but the author managed to keep it lighthearted in most places so it’s perfect for her younger readers, whilst still being informative and exciting for her older readers. It took me a while to get into the story, but after that I couldn’t put it down (which is why I was awake until 3am…).

    This is a great book for girls aged 9+, although it is quite long (400 pages or so.) I give it a rating of 4/5. Definitely a good book for current/previous fans of Jacqueline Wilson.

    This book is amzing! First, Elsie’s Nan gets TB of the lungs and then Elsis gets TB of the leg! Elsie has a lot of trouble following the hospital rules.

    Great book. Jacky does it again. Explains TB soo well, and what effects it can have on families. This book should’ve come out during the Jubilee, would’ve been a perfect fit
