Jacqueline Wilson was born in Bath in 1945, but spent most of her childhood in Kingston-on-Thames. She always wanted to be a writer and wrote her first “novel” when she was nine, filling countless Woolworths’ exercise books as she grew up. Since having her daughter, Emma, she has been writing full time.

Her insightful and emotionally challenging books not only stretch reading ability, but give young readers a glimpse into many kinds of lives. Smart girls, strong girls, bad girls, brave girls. Girls keeping their families going, girls trying to get away… Jacqueline Wilson’s written about them all! These powerful stories of plucky girls in difficult circumstances won’t fail to strike a chord.

She has written over 70 best-selling books, and several have even been adapted for TV – most famously The Story of Tracy Beaker. Her signing sessions attract huge crowds of fans and last for hours! Over 25 million copies of her books have now been sold in the UK alone.

In 2007 Jacky Daydream was published, an inspirational true story of how a shy schoolgirl became a superstar author. This was followed by My Secret Diary, a captivating account of Jacky’s teenage years.

In June 2002 Jacqueline was given an OBE for services to literacy in schools, and she was the Children’s Laureate from 2005-2007. She also became a Dame in December 2007.

   So cool I cry at how the nurses treat poor Elsie and I understand her feelings. She is rather like me it feels like we’re sisters I blushed when the nurse gave her the pot to go to the toilet

   I really liked this book because it just had such a warm feel to it. I honestly didn’t want it to end and it was the first time I’d read a large chapter book. Loved it!

   I was almost in tears when I had read the first few chapters of this book. I would hate to be put in Elsie’s shoes. it’s just so emotional. to be Elsie, to know that your mum doesn’t really care about you and to know that the only one who loves you is suffering in hospital. oh! don’t ask me about it. despite the emotional parts, I really enjoyed this book. you must read it because you’ll be speechless by the time you have read it.

   this book is quite sad and nearly had me in tears when the nan goes into a special hospital and she has to be parted from her only grandaughter. i have read this book 1 and a half times.

   I really like the idea of Elsie sleeping with her Nan if she is afraid of the dark which is probably all the time. Also when Elsie’s Nan does not even need Elsie’s mum to look after Elsie. This shows that Elsie’s Nan is responsible for everything Elsie does. This also shows that Elsie and her Nan love each other very much. I think that Elsie is a very sensible child because her Nan has never ever shouted at her, not even once!!! I am sure things will go right for the rest of Elsie’s life but we just have to wait and see if that is true!Do you agree with me?

   Due to the fact this is such a interesting book to me i will rate this book to an outstanding amount of 5/5!!!

    This is a book that gets your emotions running so fast that when you put the book down your confused and shocked that your not in the book with Elsie. I hated the way that the nurses treated the poor children, yet it was educational as well as it was true what they had done. I love the ending though as it is just so well written, though the rest of the book is too. You will fall in love with all of the characters and make best friends with each and every single one of them. If you haven’t read this yet then you better as you are missing out on a simply amazing story.

    Elise lives with her nan. Her nan is taken ill and has to go to a sanatorium. Elise’s mum has to come back from her abroad working theatre job. Elise gets a similar disease as her nan and has to go into hospital. Queenie the hospital cat takes a liking to Elise.

    It is 1953, and Elsie Kettle cannot wait to go to the coronation to see the Queen. Unfortunately Elsie and her Grandma fall ill with a Disease called TB. Can Queenie the majestic – cosy – amazing hospital ward cat help Elsie and her Grandma get to the coronation safely and well….

    Elsie loves her Nan more than anyone else so when they both get TB she is convinced her Nan didn’t infect her. She makes friends in the hospital both human and cat.

    Queenie was a really great book! Like all Jacqueline Wilson books, you could really identify with the characters in a real-like situation. When I first read the blurb, I wasn’t sure if it was going to be a sad book but it does have a happy ending.

    i love this book because the majority of the books in the world are set in the modern times. however, this book is fortunately set in the Victorian times. i found this book very interesting because it is also set in London and it explains the setting and everything. also the fact that the book was kind of based around the cat ( QUENNIE ) at the end, makes it seem quite unusual.

    Great book – much more like Wilson’s older novels in that it has superior quality to some of the newer ones, and very emotive! I recommend to boys and girls aged 5 – 7.
